    For the fourth year in a row, Nancy Palermo, Martha Ann Sisson and Barb Steele participated in the ACC National Capital Region’s annual Career Development Fair. Nancy, Martha Ann and Barb provided guidance to attorneys seeking advice on resume drafting, utilizing LinkedIn for job searching and networking, and best practices for career advancement.   • Nancy Palermo and Dan Binstock to attend the ACC NCR 2016 Annual Meeting and January Luncheon

    G&S Partners, Nancy Palermo and Dan Binstock, will attend the annual meeting and luncheon at the Hilton in Tysons Corner, given by the ACC National Capital Region. The key note speaker, Calvin Lai, Director of Research for Project Implicit will lead an interactive program exploring implicit bias and its effects on the workplace. Luise Welby will begin her term as president of ACC NCR and the new officers and directors will be elected for the chapter.

    G&S recruiters, Martha Ann Sisson and Barbara Steele, joined the Board Members and Committee Chairs of the ACC National Capital Region chapter for an informal networking reception at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Tysons. The Chapter wanted to kick off the New Year with their sponsors.

  • G&S Recruiters Present at George Washington University Law School

    For the third consecutive year, G&S recruiters Dan Binstock, Justine Donahue, Nancy Palermo, and Barb Steele presented the program titled, “Understanding Practice Areas: What Experienced Attorneys Wish They Learned As 1L Students” to first-year law students at GW Law School. This program is part of GW’s larger Inns of Court program. The presentation provided candid advice to law students about why they should research and explore practice areas early in their law school career and covered a discussion of the most active practice areas, strategies for researching law firms for OCI, and credentials and competitiveness in the DC legal market.

  • G&S Recruiters Present at George Mason University Law School

    G&S recruiters Dan Binstock and Justine Donahue spoke to first-year law students at George Mason University Law School about the DC legal market, the importance of choosing their practice area, tips for OCI interviews, and general job search strategies. It was an interactive session with approximately 30 students in attendance. This program is part of G&S’s continued commitment to advise law students about their career options as they enter the legal profession.

    Garrison & Sisson has been selected by Harvard Law School to advise students on the current state of the DC legal market and how to approach on-campus interviews (OCI) for opportunities in Washington, DC. The program encompasses individual counseling sessions for their students interested in the Washington, DC market, during which we advise on specific law firms.

    Dan Binstock’s article “Struggling Law Firms and the Lateral Partner Feast” appeared in Bloomberg BNA’s “Big Law Business” section on May 20, 2015. The article discusses some of the obstacles involved when recruiting partners from firms that are publicly struggling.

    Dan Binstock served as a panelist at the May WALRRA Conference discussing programs at the recent NALP Conference. He provided an overview of his program on how law firms can obtain more accurate information from candidates during the interview process.

    Dan Binstock moderated a panel at the annual 2015 NALSC Conference in San Francisco. The panel, entitled “When the Firm Goes Silent: Understanding Internal Law Firm Logjams,” included recruiting managers from Gibson Dunn, Wilson Sonsini, Mintz Levin, and Kilpatrick Townsend.

    Dan Binstock, Justine Donahue, Lorita Holley, Matt Schwartz and Barbara Steele attended the annual NALP Conference in Chicago, Illinois in early April. Our recruiters presented on two separate panels: “Um … Something Smells Funny: How to Spot When Candidates Aren’t Telling You the Whole Story,” and “Your Missing Practice Area Manual: Know the Right Questions to Ask.” Garrison & Sisson also held three Tory Burch handbag giveaways that drew tremendous crowds.
